| Notes for Hugo Friedrick Kuss | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Someone wrote love letters from Hugo to Vearl. Hugo couldn't read or write. When Alvina was approached about it during the early 1980's, she didn't know who did it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Daune, Hugo's oldest son, remembers his Dad as being a pretty mild easy going kind of guy. The only time he remembers Hugo really getting mad was when he lost the family cresent wrench. Back in those days the cost of a new cresent wrench was 4-5 dollars, which for the Hugo Kuss family was like taking out a loan for a house. Also in those days, because of the poor quality of gas and the crap they would throw into the gas tank of their cars, it was very common place to have to clean or changed spark plugs that got foweled out. So Hugo used this wrench very often to check spark plugs on their old car. Daune had been doing some work on the old car himself when he must have left the wrench sitting on a fender ... where ever he left it, it was never to be found again. Hugo was not pleased and on one of the few occasions that Daune can remember, really let Daune have it! ******************* From the Oak Hill Hi-Lites Sunday, July 3, 1977 Oak Hill Baptist Church 4140 4th St. N.E. Columbia Heights, MN 55421 Getting Acquainted Let's get acquainted with three families. There is a Mr. Hugo Kuss listed in the church directory. He lives alone over by the old church building, (near 37th and Polk St) has retired, and loves to drive his red dodge car. If you go to see him, you will have to knock long and loud at his door for he's hard of hearing. If you cannot spot him when he comes to church Sunday morning, he will be sitting with Mary Cornelius. She is his daughter. She lives with her husband, Ron, about a half a block away. (on 37th & Polk Street) Mary is our "food" lady. All these good "eating fellowships" are planned by her and the Social Committee. She works for Bridgemans! (Best place to work, especially in the summer.) Her hobbies are - having ripe tomatos before the 4th of July; collecting old things like barber chairs and cream separators. If you have old nylons, give them to her – she loves to make pillows (& turtles) Then – Mary Ann Watland is Hugo Kuss' granddaughter and Mary Cornelius niece. Her mother went to be with Jesus many years ago and was a member of our church. Now can you put all these people together in your mind? By Duane and Helen Dewing | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
