| In 1937, his family moved to a farm near Alden where he farmed and worked with a paving crew. In 1940, he started farming near Easton. He married Alvina Kus on January 14, 1942 in Albert Lea. The couple farmed and lived near Easton for over 53 years. He also did contract hauling for Stokely/Van Camp for 20 years and was a part time driver for Winnebago Industries of Forest City, Iowa for over 12 years. He served on the Walnut Lake Town Board for 22 years, the Wells/Easton School Board for 12 years, six of those years as chairman. Hew was a member and served on the Church Council of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. He served as an A.S.C. Committee Member. He won two first place awards and a silver medallion at the Minnesota Inventors Congress and the Gold Award at "Inventions 91" at the North American Farm and Power Show. He was issued three patents by the United States Patent Office. He enjoyed participating in the Minnesota Hand Corn Husking contest and won a first place award in the 1991 contest. |
