Darcy has been fighting alcoholism most of his adult life. He had been to treatment and dry for 5 years until early in 2001 when he started drinking again. His son Nathan said, "My Dad's doctor told me he'll (Darcy) only live a year to a year and a half if he ever starts drinking again." Darcy's liver is hardly functioning and the drinking just further damages it.
